Our Story:
It was a sad day when the Wisconsin area favorite, Candy Raisins™, left the market years ago; and an even harder day when the original machinery was auctioned off and dismantled. We had been working for years to purchase the original equipment, however it had fallen into disrepair, and after negotiations were unfruitful, we found the only way to keep this kind of product alive was to remake the candy from scratch using modern machinery, modern ingredients, the original candy, and the help of Candy Raisins™ lovers everywhere. Inspired by the work ethic and ingenuity which made Milwaukee the center of many industries throughout the last century, and starting with the last cases of the original Candy Raisins™ we could find which had not gone rotten, we worked diligently to recreate a candy which could satisfy our raisins craving.
After using old techniques as well as modern, scouring library shelves, scrounging garage sales, burning pots and pans, after running our friends and family ragged, and many trials(including currently ongoing public testing where we listen to feedback and make changes to the formula); our extremely patient panels of tasters(including lots of Candy Raisins™ lovers) approved Candy Sunshine™ as a product which to them, satisfied their craving for the original Raisins™.
Our first formula released early in 2012, shorlty after we started to get e-mails from angry customers(we also received kind e-mails as well from happy customers). Lots of people thought the flavor was much too strong and they also wanted the candy hard and almost stale (like they remembered). So we tweaked the formula and invented a way to dry the candy out more, and released the new version. Then, we again started to get e-mails from people angry the candy was too hard and stale(we also received kind e-mails as well on this version). Although frustrating, we humbly listened and kept working. We started from scratch and came up with a brand new formula based in part on feedback received, and then sent over 50 Candy Raisins™ lovers samples for feedback. After repeating this process a few times and looking at the results of over 100 samplers who loved the original Candy Raisins™, we found out that no one could agree on all aspects of the flavor(or texture, or color, or size) of the original.
January 21st, 2013 we release a new formula, V103, which was the culmination of everyones input. People really liked V103 but had some suggestions, which we instituted. Our newest version is fantastic, V124 is releasing May, 2013!! V124 will be a perfect replication to some, and to others there might be some differences in certain aspects. In the end this formula was very close to what most our samplers remembered, but for example, some wanted more of a certain flavor, some less, some less flavor altogether, some more, etc. It has been a commnunity effort and the results should make most lovers of Candy Raisins™ happy, at least a bit! Indeed Candy Sunshine is truly it's own unique product. Enjoy some today!
